Skill:
Record the occupational category suitable for your skill level in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) (pdf).
Work experience:
(1) Recent Employment. You should have work experience in an occupational category in the SOL for 12 months of the 24 months prior to application if you are applying for an offshore visa, and do not meet the two year study in Australia requirement.
Age:
Less than 45 years old at the time of application.
English:
Unless you hold a passport from a specified English speaking country, you will need to acquire 6.0 or more in all sections (reading, writing, listening, speaking) of IELTS test. If you have nominated a trade in your application, you can apply with an average score of 5, and if you apply for a Skilled -Regional Sponsored (provisional) visa, an overall score of 5.5 is permissible.

The following self-assessment form should be completed to allow us to assess your suitability for the range of Independent visas free of charge. We will contact you if we require any further information. Please note that the pass mark for the new range of visas commencing on 1st September 2007, is as follows:

- Skilled Independent (175 and 885): 120 points
- Skilled - Sponsored (176 and 886): 100 points
- Skilled- Regional Sponsored (475 and 487): 100 points
